Gotta love photo booth.

So I'm sitting at my kitchen table after just making myself a cuppa. I've got the computer on and I'm looking forward to catching up on my blogs. All is well until Miss Haidee comes in, grabs a can of condensed milk and asks if I could open it for her pronto....... Ah no, it ain't happening.

I can see that this is going to turn into a Veruca Salt type melt down so I quickly put on photo booth and start playing with it. You can't see her in the first shot. She was sulking near the water stand. It didn't last long though....

A little giggle then she hops up.

There are so many more however I need not bore you with them all. My girls just love photo booth and laugh at mummy looking "swirly" or "boxy".

I tell her to grab an apple and go build me a *gianificent castle out of lego. So off she toddles to the playroom.

Phew, crises averted. Now back to my (now cold) tea. Cheers!

Tea time

These sweet tea party sets are sewn by my mother in law Liz. Aren't they beautiful? I'm so pleased that I managed to get a photo of them this morning because I sold the pink tea cup and teapot soon after. They are designed by Cynthia Martin and make a perfect gift for someone who has everything. They'd also look great in a little girls room. Ooooh, that's got me thinking.....teacup and saucer baby mobiles, now that would be cute!

Shop update

Lordy I love my sister. She's here visiting for a few days and yesterday she snuck into the shop to take some photographs. Aren't they lovely? It's wonderful to see her at work. I highly recommend her to you all, any photographic work needed, she's your girl!

The shop is going well. I have a just received some beautiful birdhouses made from recycled fence posts and corrugated iron. They're so pretty! Each one is lovingly handmade and look perfect hanging from a tree (we have one in our apple tree). I've started adding some of my vintage finds to the shop too. Some I'm finding a little hard to let go, but it's nice to share the vintage love :)

Well, I must be off. There's a bunch of kidlets here waiting for their watermelon and oranges. I've left the shop details below. Feel free to email me for any queries.

The downside of country living...

I miss out on seeing this lovely lady at the Sydney Festival.

Infact, I miss the entire Sydney Festival. It's poo I tell you!

I went to primary school with Holly and I just love what she's doing now. Her album See! is so sweet and magical. Haidee loves it to bits. Oh how I wish I could be there. Alas I up stuck here with my mundane chores, which today include hanging out washing and cleaning up sheep poop.

Joy of joys.

Maybe next year I'll be more organized.

Today I'm making.....

Plushie cake toppers! One of the new ideas that I'm trying to implement. Cute huh? I'm going to try my hands at the number 2 today. Wish me luck, those curves can be hard to negotiate with stuffing.

I'm also looking after my friends little boy today. He's just turned one and is a lovely lad. It's such a beautiful age. We're having lots of fun playing chasing, wrestling and being covered in sloppy kisses. Mind you the cat isn't enjoying it so much. He's hidden himself up on my wardrobe. Wise move.

The orange room

The spare room at Grandma's is a snapshot of pure retro style. Infact her whole house is. I slept in this room as a child, snuggled up in an orange chenille bedspread, one of two twin beds. My sister in the other.

Nothing has changed. Everything has it's place and not a speck of dust in sight. There's something so comforting about my grandmothers house. It's constant. Every time I go there I feel as though I never left.

Christmas at Grans

We played lots of UNO, enjoyed our pressies, did lots of fishing (thanks to my beautiful brother who gave the girls their first fishing rods) and enjoyed spending time with our loved ones, particularly my darling grandmother. I'm so blessed to still have her. I loved seeing all the children playing the same games that my siblings and I used to do when we were young. Finding the same hiding spots, picking the same flowers, using the same cups to drink their raspberry cordial... like we all did as children. I got to hang out with my sister again. Something I don't get to do much. She's always been my best friend and I just loved spending quality time with her.

What a lovely time.

It's now 2012 and I really have to snap back into things. I have so many ideas and can't wait to buckle down and get some new things made. Watch this space!

Taking a moment

Hello to all my lovely followers. How are we all coping with the lead up to Christmas and New Year? I've been rather frazzled amidst all the parties, concerts, markets, orders, visitors and birthday parties - so this morning I took a moment to just put my legs up and rest.

I'd like to wish everyone a beautiful Christmas with your loved ones. May you treasure all the blessings that are in your life and be filled with love for one another. Have fun, eat lots of yummy food and just enjoy being together. Christmas can also be rather difficult for some people, particularly those who have lost someone close to their heart. I offer these people my prayers that happiness will return into their lives soon.

Merry Christmas everyone, and thank you for reading my silly little blog. It is very much appreciated :)

I have created The 2012 NETS Kids Calendar which is now available for sale. Following is some information about NETS (Newborn & paediatric Emergency Transport Service) and what they do. What is NETS?

NETS the 'Newborn & paediatric Emergency Transport Service' is a very unique organisation, one which

operates within NSW and the ACT on a 'twenty four seven' basis. The service provides expert clinical

advice, clinical co-ordination, stabilisation, and emergency treatment for very sick babies and children up

to the age of 16 years. NETS provides peace of mind and special support for parents and family members

during times of despondency and disbelief. The service takes mobile intensive care to critically ill babies

and children. 'NETS is a Hospital with no Walls'.

The NETS Kids 2012 Calendar is aimed at raising funds for NETS to help maintain and replace the vital

equipment the service uses on a daily basis.

The Calendar is the brain child of parent and 'Seasons in Art' Photographer, Tara Chiu, whose own son was

transported by NETS in 2008 after a near fatal fall. To show her appreciation, Tara created the NETS KIDS

2011 Calendar, which featured photographs of 13 NETS patients along with a short paragraph of the child's

experience with NETS. The calendar was a huge success, so Tara has now created a 2012 calendar.

This year the NETS calendar highlights the work of NETS and the impact the service has on the families of

the babies and children that are treated, stabilised and transferred by NETS. The Calendar contains the

NETS patients' photographed in the role of NETS Staff. The photo on the top and the calendar month on

the bottom with a short paragraph of the child's experience with NETS and subsequent recovery.

The calendar is available on the NETS website at www.nets.org.au

My weekend :: Rylstone Street Feast 2011

The annual Rylstone Street Feast was held on Saturday. I had a little stall there and spent the day soaking up the atmosphere. It was quite hot but thankfully my position had a cool breeze flowing through it. Below are some pics from the day....

I also had the pleasure of being beside this fellow.....

His name is Brett Nutting (pictured in the top photo with the red shirt) and he is one talented man. He creates the most beautiful furniture from recycled timber under the name AdHoc Furniture. He's also rather funny and had me in giggle mode for most of the day. It's wonderful to have a great neighbour at markets, it helps the day progress that little bit faster.

Brett's showroom is in Kandos, NSW. He also has a website that you can see here. Amazing stuff !

All in all, it was a lovely weekend. Although I am pleased that the frantic pace of last week is over. For now anyway. Christmas is looming and I ain't ready, not one bit.

Church St Gallery Exhibition

On a Dolly high

Well I'm back and I'm on a high after seeing my lady perform in Sydney. She is everything I ever dreamt she'd be. It was an intimate concert with everyone sitting most of the time, listening to Dolly talk about the stories behind her songs, her memories and her loved ones. It was so special. Below is a clip from her show in Manchester earlier in the year. Dolly was wearing a yellow dress for the Sydney show but her performance was just as impeccable as this.

One thing that marred my trip was an embarrassing parking incident in my old haunt of Balmain. I was meeting a friend and decided to park outside a cafe. Lots of people were there, watching me negotiate the Subaru alongside a curved gutter.

Now those that know me are well aware that I am a little top heavy (we're not talking Dolly size thankfully). They often get in the way and this time was no different. I hit the gutter with a jolt which thrust me forward, making my chest hit the horn. I turned and looked at the small crowd who were all staring and noticed that John Waters was one of them. Lordy I was embarrassed. I got out of the car and sheepishly explained that "I'm from Mudgee way" which they accepted. Little did they know, I'm just a shitty parker. Well, when it comes to curved gutters anyway :)

So to those who were at this cafe yesterday morning, my apologies for disrupting your peace and quiet. I'm such a goose.

I'm sure to have a "better day" today when I drive to Mudgee. It's all angle parking there!

Mon Alisa Design Shop is OPEN!!!

Wow, what a weekend! The shop is finally open! I had a fantastic opening day with lots of customers stopping by. It was lovely getting to know people who were either from the region or just visiting. My beautiful parents came up to help me with the girls, gardens and everything else. Big ups to my mother who cleaned up my studio....a HUGE job! I'm so lucky to have such great support.

This post is rather rushed I know. I'm trying to get everything ready while I'm away at this........

Uh huh, that's right..... I'm seeing my lady tonight. I'm so excited! I'm packing like a banshee!!

Meet Scott and Charlene...

H's latest purchase so he doesn't have to mow the grass as often.

They are a bit cute. The white one is a girl and the brown/white a boy. There were so many names I could come up with (the obvious one being Kenny and Dolly) but in the end I chose Scott and Charlene.

I think it has something to do with the curly hair, and the wedding dress....

Not much of a difference really, except that the sheep would have eaten the bouquet.

Church St Gallery ::: James Kearns

Last week I visited Mudgee town for one reason only. To check out Church St Gallery which has been opened by the very talented James Kearns (or Kearnsy). I remember first reading about him over at Mandy's blog 16 house. I had no idea at the time that he was living out my way. He was featured in the local paper recently promoting his new gallery and I just had to rush in and have a look......I was blown away. Below are some photographs of some of his work, however my camera doesn't do them justice. They are all so rich in texture, beautifully haunting in the layering of paint, lace, papers, silhouette and colour.

This man can truly rock a painting.

Lovely aren't they? It's exciting to have a contemporary art space so close. Haidee and I had a great time meeting James and chatting away. A top bloke.

Where do you keep your letters?

This is an old window shutter that we found in the shed. It makes a wonderful letter holder for the hallway, so that when H comes home the letters (bills) are waiting for him. Otherwise they would get lost in the abyss that is our house. We put a backing on it and hung it crudely with copper wire.

I do have a habit of shoving other things in there too (like The Spice Girls CD cover face up so Haidee can't see). I must clean it up a bit.

Anywho, I just thought I'd share it with you all. Where do you keep your letters?

Playing with painting

I'm taking part in a little exhibition called "Postcards from Rylstone". Local artists, parents and friends have been asked to contribute some work that will be auctioned off to raise funds for our local school. Here are two of my little artworks that will be auctioned off. I have a 3rd one but have handed it in already, will have to photograph it later (it's my fave)

Acrylic paint, pen, tea bags, vintage book pages, japanese paper and lots of fun!

vintage stamps, old flip number cards from a broken alarm clock, acrylic paint, pen.

Isn't it a super idea? I love the thought of everyone getting creative for the school. Whether they're artists or not...it's all just a bit of fun really :)

And *ahem* the invitation is extended for anyone else who wants to get involved....hint hint?? Although all works need to be returned by the 28th of October.

If you are interested than just let me know. I can send a wee little canvas to you.

So yes, I didn't end up going to Mudgee today. Even as the drab weather turned out quite pleasant. I ignored the laundry, dishes and vacuuming. Plonked down, watched Sunset Boulevard and painted.

Lazy mornings

I'm loving this Saturday morning. Echoes of the holidays, when I was able to lie in bed and not worry about having to be somewhere at a certain time. The girls stayed in the spare bedroom last night. They were so excited to be sharing a "big bed" AND watch a movie. Kind of like a little sleep over party just for them. As a result they've woken up in chipper moods and are playing beautifully with their Sylvanian families, making playgrounds for them out of lego and toilet roll holders. I was thinking of heading into Mudgee for the Farmers Markets to pick up some Gingle mil wine. However it's looking a bit drab outside today. Perfect weather for drinking lots of tea and painting.

Commissioned Vintage Doily Necklace

This is one serious necklace folks. A special commission for one of my vintage doily necklaces in black and gold. It looks amazing on and although it appears heavy, it's very light to wear.

Now that the weather is warming up I'm working on a few more of my larger necklaces. They're the perfect accessory for Spring as they can dress up the simplest garment. I'm thinking a yellow one is next on the list.

Spring inspired jewels

The weather here has been so beautiful of late. Spring has brought new inspiration for a few new pieces. I'm loving wooden beads mixed with gem beads, ceramic beads and vintage lace. Some of these beads I've had for yonks, given to me by friends or sourced at various garage sales. However some are brand spanking new, like the beautiful round patterned wooden beads in both necklaces. I'm a sucker for love hearts!

I've been waiting to use this carved jade piece for a few months now. It's quite large with a diameter of 5cm but I think it works well within the necklace. The diamonte circle was a buckle, sourced from a garage sale, along with a broken necklace of hexagon shaped cinnabar beads. I've featured a couple of them in these earrings.....

I'm on a bit of a roll and whilst I love this renewed energy, my house is suffering terribly for it! I need to work on my time management so that other things get done....you know, things like grocery shopping, washing clothes AND hanging them out, doing dishes, changing sheets, vacuuming.....all that jazz :)

I'll get there one day.

Pretty sky

I just wanted to share with you the pretty sky in Rylstone. There's a storm brewing but thankfully it has missed us, and my washing.

The girls are out back squealing with delight as dadda takes them for a ride on his latest project... a very old (and rather noisy) ride-on mower.

Me? I'm in the kitchen enjoying a glass of red with Geppetto on my shoulder.....his butt in my face (noice), listening to The Shangri-Las whilst dinner is bubbling away.

The first day of Spring is finally here. Thank goodness for that!

A snippet of August

I'm wondering where the time has gone? This month has been very busy with lots of birthdays and other activities. Here is a snippet of what's been happening.....

Book Week/Open Day at Amelia's School. The theme was "The Galaxy" and my munchkin wanted to be a moon and stars. I loved looking at all of her hard work.

Haidee wanted to be a Sun, complete with rainbow stockings :)

Don't be fooled. This cat is ca-razy!!! I love him, i really do....I just don't like being attacked by him when he's in one of his "moods". Seriously folks, I've never seen anything like it. He is a ninja cat. He even beats up the dog!

Haidee's 4th birthday. August is our busy month when it comes to birthdays. I have created alot of cakes over the past few weeks.

I've also been buckling down and doing some serious work. With the shop opening up soon, I have to build up my stock. It's been lots of fun but jeepers my hands are sore! Here are a few of the pieces I've been working on....

This piece is all hand wired using vintage bit's and bobs.

I love this one. It's quite a large piece that consists of coral, cinnabar, carved wood and vintage beads, chains and buttons.

This afternoon I have to get stuck into a book carving. I'd much rather snuggle up on the lounge and watch a movie but that won't be happening anytime soon.

Better be off now. I have a truck load of laundry to fold and put away and even more to hang out.

Shop Update

Well it's been a long time since I've posted about the shop. Council has only just given the go ahead so I'm looking at opening in September. It has been a long process but we're finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Hayden has done all of it. He's super industrious and has used a lot of recycled materials (the wooden exterior is actually our old fence). The biggest hurdle was patching things up to keep the possums out. They're so naughty!!

We've also been blessed with donated items such as the door, windows and a lovely small cabinet (thanks Mum and Dad!) and some other bric a brac. When we first moved here the shed (now shop) was filled with stuff. It was a bin divers dream! When the previous owner Rose, came to collect it, she let us have some things that she was going to throw away. This included a bookcase which I painted on the weekend, using paint sample tins that she also left behind. It came out pretty good and didn't cost me a cent. Thankyou Rose!

Here are some pics of what we have achieved so far....

The front entrance. The driveway is nearly completed. We just need to do some gardening.

My amazing husband hard at work. I love him so much!

The small cabinet my parents found for me sitting atop of one that came from a local haberdashery shop that closed recently. It even has the old metal ruler fixed on the edge to measure ribbons.

A sign I made for "The Bowerbird" exhibition a couple of years ago. Inspired by the lovely Melinda at Paperklip. It was quite fiddly to make and I must admit that I cheated because I bought my letters. She cuts hers out! Such a clever (and patient) gal!

My dear friend Mel inspired me to do this after seeing one of her creations, a lovely mobile for her niece. I wrapped scraps of fabric around lampshade frames that I found at the tip. Very inexpensive!

The bookcase. I would have preferred different paint colours however I steadfastly refuse to pay for more when there's perfectly good quality paint to be used. It turned out better than expected and didn't cost a cent. Gotta love that!

Now I'm trying to get together stock which is why I haven't posted for a while. I've been getting into wire work lately and have come up with some lovely pieces.

Cranky mummy

In my defence, she had just accidently decapitated her sisters fairy figurine that I told her not to touch.

Oh dear, my teeth are all sharp and grinding. Surely I'm not that scary? I love that she has me standing with a spider, a beetle and two potatoes, one of them named "Sally".

I think I'll frame this one.

Some prettiness and early blooms

Oh how busy we have been! We've had lovely visits from family and friends, Amelia's party, new babies born and unfortunately, some bad news which has affected dear friends. The last couple of weeks have been quite a roller coaster seeing people whom I love feel so afraid and unsure of what to do next. They're all in my prayers.
This weekend hubby and I are taking some time off to visit one of my dearest friends for her birthday. She's throwing a roaring 20's party and I can't wait to dress up with her again, just like we did when we were little girls. I even splashed out today and bought myself some spesh lippy... with Haidee's help of course.

On a separate note, look what I sprung in the garden today....

I must say, they're a little early this year but I'm so pleased to see them again. Yellow makes my heart sing!

Yes it's true. Amelia's birthday is fast approaching and she has asked for a polka dot party after seeing it in a kids party magazine. I'm trying to do things in dribs and drabs so I don't turn into a banshee on the actual day. She wants red, white and aqua.....a sure sign that we are growing out of the pink and purple phase.

It should be a lovely day. I just ove having all her little friends over. They're a super bunch of kids!

And now for another one of my belated thank you's. Today I'd like to thank darling Tina for my sweet little flower brooch...

You may remember Tina from this post. She makes the sweetest things and as I've said before, they are truly made with love. I won this little gem over at her beautiful blog "Rubies' Place" and I just love it.

I've been a bit naughty. You see, recently I have been the recipient of some wonderful giveaways on blogspot and have neglected to thank those publicly who gave so generously. I've been putting it off for silly reasons like finding the right frame or position in the house before I post. But the way things are going, it will be forever! So today I am posting my first of many overdue thank you's. This shout out goes to Tamarah from Shabby Vintage Junk. I love following her adventures as she unearths some amazing goodies. It's right up my alley!

Tamarah recently held a giveaway and the winner was lucky duck me! I was so chuffed to receive this......

Isn't she divine?? I've named her Suzette and for now she is gracing our hallway under my rainbow architrave. I just love her!

So big thanks to you Tamarah. She is so beautiful, as are you sweets!

My week

1. Cleaning. This bench was COVERED in crap. I now have photographic proof that it can be clean.

2. Sewing some more tweets

3. Battling with Geppetto over just who is in charge of the laundry basket.

4. Walking home from play dates and parties.

5. Drawing with biro.

And thats about it. The girls are playing tag team with contracting conjunctivitis. Today is Haidee's turn so we're staying home. I'm thinking today will be spent watching Shirley Temple movies and cooking yummy chicken and veg soup. Oh and finishing the laundry of course, if the cat lets me!

Painting and why I should never use childrens paint.

I'm such a twit. I felt the urge to finish a painting I've been working on. It was Monday, a public holiday. I decided I wanted to use black so I took it out and it was all gluggy and gross.

What to do?

Out of desperation to fulfill my creative needs, I used some of Amelia's paint.....childrens paint. You see, for me to get new paint I would've had to wait a day to travel either to Mudgee or Bathurst. Both long drives.

I finished and felt at peace with what I had done. I let it dry whilst I ate my lunch and had a cuppa. I then went to varnish it only to have most of the black erased :(

I felt like such a goose, I should have known better but alas I had a major brain fart. It's so frustrating when things like this happen however I look at it as a lesson in patience. Instead of waiting one day to go into town I tried the "quick fix" and it bit me in the bum.

Above is what it did look like. It's not all wiped off. I think I'll go over what I can and leave it unvarnished. It's still pretty but I can't sell it.

I think I'll hang it in my hallway as a daily reminder not to rush. Things will sometimes go wrong but it's not the end of the world. Just pick up and start again :)

Rylstone Makers Market Preparations.

Well, I've had one super-dooper busy week here with both girls coming down sick and having to prep for the market this Saturday, held at the Rylstone Memorial Hall. I'm pleased with my efforts however I am slightly concerned about how organized I am.....that NEVER happens!! He he!

The items shown above will be for sale along with my jewellery, nursing necklaces and tweets. It should be quite busy as we get a few people visiting our little town during long weekends. The hall is on Louee Street and the market runs from 9am to 1pm. It should be a fun day for all :)

Rylstone is holding a new Makers Market on the 2nd Saturday of each month. It is strictly a handmade and hand grown market with some wonderful stalls selling fresh produce, wool, furniture and even puppies! *bless*

I've been busy trying to get some "bread 'n' butter" items made to sell at the next market, held the June long weekend. Above is a piccie of some cards that I've put together using Little Golden Book illustrations, scrap booking card and the off cuts from this project. Now I'm not one for card making. I usually end up making a mess of it but I think these are looking a wee bit cute :)

Aren't they divine? I love how they have payed homage to the beautifully humble and intricately detailed doily. It's a perfect example of marrying modern furniture design with a traditional element.

"Annie" is one of my all time favourite movies. The girls have been a wee bit obsessed with it lately much to the H mans dismay. My favourite character is Miss Hannigan. I think Carol Burnett's portrayal of her is the ants pants. I'm loving her bedroom, her robes, her jewellery....I even love that i share the same nickname as her brother. So today I'll be using her as inspiration for some new necklaces. If you're not familiar with "Annie" here's a clip.....

Vintage buckle and brooch necklace

Howdy everyone, it's been a while I know. I've had rotten luck of late with my camera dying amongst other dramas, however I'm holding my chinny-chopper up and carrying on ("Man'O'War" style. None of this "keeping calm" bizzo). As a result I've been unable to list my new stock on etsy which I must apologize for. I've had quite a few inquiries about my latest designs. I've decided to call them "fur neck collars" which was kindly suggested by Sonia M who also makes gorgeous jewellery and rocking feather capelets. Thank you to those who commented, you were most helpful :)

Due to my technical difficulties I'm having to go back to photo's uploaded already. I thought I'd share with you one of my simpler statement pieces....

It's made from one half of a vintage buckle and a broken 1950's rhinestone brooch. I think it's so pretty in it's simplicity.

I'm of to list it now.

Elaborate faux fur neck muff

May has turned out to be a rather busy month for me. Above is one of my new neck muffs that I have been working on. I'm not hot on calling them "muffs" though (for obvious reasons) so any other suggestions would be very welcome. Today I'm finishing off a leopard print one so I can list them in my etsy store tomorrow. I find I wear less necklaces and earrings during the colder months and instead opt for decorative scarves and brooches. These are so warm and snug. They're also very pretty ta-boot!

An exciting day

Now it's no secret to those who know me that I'm a wee bit obsessed with Royalty. In particular the British Royal family. Over the years I have immersed myself into their history and have now become a walking encyclopedia on the Monarchy....sad I know. And like so many others I am super-dooper excited to watch the wedding of William and Catherine this evening. I have avoided the television and all the speculation of "what will she wear?" or "What flowers will they have?" It drives me batty! I want everything to be a surprise. Instead I have been surfing the net admiring the wedding dresses of past Royal brides. Above is a lovely image of Queen Victoria. She looks so pretty with her crown of orange blossoms. We can also thank her for the "white dress".

I can't wait to see what Catherine has chosen to wear. I'm sure it will be beautiful :)

Brides and butterflies

As my last post already told you...I need to buckle down and get some work done. I've sold all of my beautiful head bandeaus...all but this one. A new headpiece perfect for the Autumn Bride. My camera doesn't really do it justice. It is made from both new and vintage laces, an offcut from a vintage silk shirt and beautiful faux velvet blooms embellished with swarovski crystal pearls. I've also handbeaded some small swarovski crystals and sequins to add a little twinkle. This piece will be heading off to Kathryn's shop in Mudgee.

I'll also show you my butterfly headpiece that I made to wear at Amelia's Easter hat parade. It's a bit crazy but that's how I roll. Some of the mummies gave me strange looks but meh....I had fun :)

I'm off now to enjoy another cuppa and possibly a few left over choccy eggs.

New Nursing Necklaces and some cuteness

Hi there! I truly must apologize for my lack of posting. I've been super busy moving into my new studio. It's been quite time consuming as I've had to sort through everything, and I mean everything...my teeny tiny beads are a killer!
I did manage to sneak away time to work on some new nursing necklaces. I haven't focused on these for a while now and was pleased to start creating them again. They're still waiting for their backing, and the strawberry needs a button but I think they're looking pretty cute :)

Speaking of cute...here's a picture of Geppetto having a cuddle with Haidee. He's grown so much!

A day of Easter hat making

Hello everyone! Long time no blog...sorry for that.

We had a wonderful time today creating gorgeous Easter hats for Amelia's school annual "Easter Hat Parade". I invited a few of her little friends for a day of crafting and fun. Some of the mummies stayed too and we had a lovely time watching all the children letting their creativity loose...They're rather talented little tykes :)

This was created by the lovely Mackinley. A gorgeous little girl who aspires to be an artist...I think she's already there.

Miss Ella's hat. I love it!!!

My baby :) She's so tired but had the loveliest time.

I love Easter hat parades. I remember them well from my days at school. We had the best principal. His name was Mr Barton and he would dress up every year in a blue bunny suit and hop along giving all the children an easter egg. I even remember walking in on him in his office, wearing the suit while his secretary Mrs Butler was sewing on his tail (and yes I'm sure that is what was happening....she was pinning it on). I love that I hold wonderful memories from my time at school. He contributed so much to my happiness as a child.

The highlight for all the children today was of course my little kitten, who finally has a name....Geppetto!

My new baby

My AMAZING husband set up an early birthday present hunt for me and the girls yesterday (My birthday is on Thursday). He is the king of treasure hunts and makes up the wittiest riddles. This was the treasure....

I burst into tears when I found this little fellow. I lost my Wolfie boy over two years ago and have longed for another little friend to curl up with. Before you ask, Obi is wonderful with him. He just isn't that hot on Obi....understandable considering that he is the size of Obi's ear!

There is no name yet. I'm toying with "Tamino", "Puccini" or "Matisse". But then I also like "Dudley" or "George". I'm awful at choosing names for pets!

I'm so happy. He is just perfect :)

"Naming The Rose" by Roger Mann. A beautiful book that gives an insight into the people who have had roses named after them. It features stunning photographs by Yvonne Arnold (her work is shown above) and Paul Barden, whose blog I only just discovered today. It's such a lovely read.

There is one special rose that I'm coveting. It isn't featured in the book but it too is named after a very special lady......

"The Sirens Song" and a lazy day

I've finished...Not overly pleased with it however it was great to experiment more with layering of colour washes. It was also lovely to paint on the vintage music sheets that I have had for so long. Here it is.....

On a separate note, I'd like to thankyou for all your lovely comments regarding my wins at the show. It was such a wonderful day and the town was all abuzz. My ribbons have given the girls endless joy which makes it all worthwhile.

The weather is looking a tad gloomy this morning which is encouraging me to have a lazy day with my girls, I'm thinking Shirley Temple movies, reading and maybe a bit of sewing. There's also a gallery opening night this evening that I'm considering walking down to later. We'll see :)

Another factor contributing to my laziness is the delish smell emanating from our kitchen. Hubby is making pancakes, something he loves to do on the rare occasion that he is home on weekend mornings. We love pancake breakfasts, they're sticky, messy and glorious!

Rylstone Show 2011

There's something so endearing about our little show. Everyone participates and has so much fun! I'm delegated to hang the knitted section which also happens to be the largest. And goodnes me, the talent in my town! Such beautiful work! The highlight of the show is the "Jack Russell Race" towards the end of the evening followed by fireworks. I managed to nab a couple of prizes with my jewellery and head bandeau which really pleased the girls. It meant that they could have some ribbons to use with their toy ponies (a very cute game I must say). A ridiculous amount of money was spent on kitsch girly show bags, rides, fairy floss and snow cones however I did manage to buy something for myself too......

And it is scrum-diddely-umptious! Infact, I'm off to have a little bit right now (with some ricotta on toast)

Nightmares

My beautiful little girl is having nightmares. She 's asking me questions about "baddies" and I'm struggling to answer them. For example, yesterday on our way to Ballet we passed a policeman who had pulled somebody over. Haidee thought this was cool and proceeded to tell us about the police force and all the things they do (it was very cute). Amelia started to get upset and said that she didn't want to hear anymore because it makes her worry that she's going to be a bad person. The convo went a little like this....

"Are people born bad Mummy?"

"No baby, people aren't born bad, sometimes they just make bad choices, mistakes that can get them in trouble"

"Are the police bad?"

"No, the police are there to help people bub"

"But I see them driving really fast and that's not allowed."

"Yes they do drive fast sometimes but usually it's because they're in a big rush to help someone. They use their sirens to let everybody know that they're coming so we can all be safe"

"I dreamt that the baddies caught you mummy and the police didn't help you at all. That's bad"

Wowsers! How do I reply to that? I was completely unprepared for this yesterday afternoon. My girl is a deep thinker and her thoughts can lead to dark places. It's horrible for her. She's been creeping into my bed the last few nights because she's afraid that I'm going to be nabbed!
I told her that I'm not going anywhere and left it at that. For now anyways. She went into her ballet class and came out beaming. I was relieved.
I still struggle with my childhood fear. I was/am deathly afraid of Mannequins. It all started with the clip below From Dr Who.

I still don't like them. As a child I kept it to myself. I remember when Mum brought home two of them to use at her school. She named them Napoleon and Josephine and kept them in our dining room for a week. They were particularly creepy, circa 1974. It was awful!
She didn't know about my fear because I never had the confidence as a child to tell her. I thought she'd think I was "odd". It's seems so silly now because my mother would have been wonderful about it. Had I of let her know I'm sure she would have said the perfect thing to make it all better. I wish I did, because now I'm finding it difficult to soothe my little girls fears.
She had a good night last night and is currently sitting with her sister eating their muesli. Her best friend at school has a father who is a policeman. I'm thinking I might ask him to talk to her out of uniform. We'll see.
What about you? Have you had similar issues with your children? Or perhaps you have a childhood fear? Any advice would be most appreciated.

A new painting I'm working on.....

I've been immersing myself in my work this week, I have so much more to do on this painting but have been enjoying the process. I'll be sure to post some pictures of the finished piece soon.

Haidee is a little more demanding of my time as she's still adjusting to having her playmate gone. I've been playing Barbies and Star Wars. It's been lovely however she gets to be Leia "in the special undies" and I'm always Jabba the Hut. Hmmmm, maybe my darling boo-ey is trying to tell me something? He he!

I also want to take a moment to welcome all my new followers. It's wonderful to see some new faces. I feel super chuffed to "meet" you all! Thankyou for taking the time to read my little blog :)

I'm officially a school mum.

Today I joined many other parents in seeing their little one off to school for the first time. Amelia went really well (as did I). I was so proud today!

The only thing that went through my mind was where did the time go? Here she is as a bubba.....

And here she was just this morning......

I'm literally bursting with pride and can't wait to see her this afternoon to hear all about her first day.

Picnic in the garden

Well it was a lovely day today wasn't it? We took advantage of the weather and decided to have ourselves a little picnic. I love doing this with the girls and part of me regrets not doing it more. You see, my little Amelia starts school tomorrow. Big school. So I really treasured this time today.

Colour and pattern inspiration......

Inspiration can be found in the simplest of things. In this case; a derelict structure down by the old railway station in Rylstone. I love the hints of aqua peeping through the wood grain.... the grey and blue hues in the shadows of corrugated iron..... the lovely rich browns in the wood and rust.....the patterns created by the textures and lines.

I'm looking forward to implementing these themes in some new paintings.

Double strand bracelet with semi precious stones

This bracelet features lovely semi precious beads (aventurine, milky quartz, moonstone, labradorite, pearl, citrine and amethyst) set amongst beautiful crystals, vintage beads and a mixture of silver and gold plated findings. I usually make these as gifts for my friends but will be making them to sell in my shop.

Australia Day

I love Australia Day, and in true form it is stinking hot here so alot of it will be spent indoors. Being Australia Day I thought I'd share a few of my favorite Aussie vintage finds with you.....

Firstly, a board game...part of my collection.

I have quite a few of these that are kept in a little tin. Today I'd like to sit down and create some trinkets incorporating them in honour of this beautiful country that I call home. But first I have to see to the washing, folding and putting away of our laundry pile. Joy.

Tina's Garland

On Friday I received this beautiful garland made by the lovely Tina from Rubies' Place. Now if you haven't come across Tina may I just say that she is an absolute STAR. She has such a generous heart and always leaves the most uplifting comments. I just love reading all of her posts...her warming spirit and words of wisdom are both encouraging and inspiring. She also has a beautiful home and a gorgeous family. She's one lovely mumma :)

This super talented lady made these garlands as a way to contribute to the Queensland floods. All proceeds of her sales went directly to The QLD Premiers Flood Appeal. I just had to have one.

I know that Tina made this with love which makes it all the more special. I love having it in my home and every time I look at it my heart is filled with such warmth.

Peaches, pears and plums

The time has come to start picking our fruit. And boy do we have alot! We've been really blessed this year with the birds and possums staying away however we weren't expecting THIS much fruit. We were also pleasantly surprised to find a pear tree in amongst the old orchard. I had no idea it was there until I saw the fruit. And they are soooo tasty! I'm off to Mudgee today to pick up some ingredients to start cooking. Saffron Pears is first on the list.....Yummy!

The best part is having the girls help out. They've waited very patiently to start picking and eating the fruit. It's so lovely to see them enjoying the simple blessings that we have. And carrying their little buckets is cute to boot! Below is a portion of yesterdays bounty....

My kitchen featured on "You Will Always Find Me"

Liz from "Lino Forest" has started a wonderful new blog called "You Will Always Find Me". It gives us all an insight into some fellow bloggers kitchens, the "hub" of many houses. I just love having a sneak peek into other peoples houses and seeing how they decorate their spaces. Today my kitchen is featured on her blog.

Now I'm the first to admit that my kitchen is "different" but that is what makes it special to our little family. I just love my wood fire oven, especially in winter. It cooks the best scones and the yummiest roasts! I don't use it much in summer. It gets too hot! I'm lucky enough to have an electric oven aswell.

The funny thing is that things have been changed around since taking these pics. We have re-arranged a little and hubby is currently in the midst of knocking up a new dining table out of our VERY old fence posts and the floorboards that once graced the original laundry. I can hear him in his shed with his power tools. Bless :)

So go and have a looksee. Perhaps you might want to share pictures of your kitchen? I know I would LOVE to see them!

P.S. Incidentally we recently saw some old fence posts in Harvey Norman as sculptures selling for $450-$500 each! And we have several of them, well, we did before H used them as table legs! It amazes me how much some things are!

Above are a selection of goodies that I am contributing to Craft Relief. Each piece is a one-off.

I was hoping to have these sent already however a short stint in hospital thwarted my plans, don't fret...I'm o.k :) So Monday morning it'll have to be.

On a somewhat separate note, I'm currently moving around all the bits and bobs in my kitchen. We bought a lovely old pantry and cupboard. It's very pretty and functional but as a result my kitchen is rather messy. I'm still trying to find space for everything! I was becoming flustered and grumpy. When the time came to find a home for these coasters I stopped and took a moment.

A moment to be bloody thankful for the mess and for all the wonderful things in life that I all too often take for granted. It stopped me dead in my tracks, turning a negative attitude into a positive one.

It sounds corny I know. They're coasters for heavens sake! But they gave me a swift kick in the pants today and I love them all the more for it.

Craft Relief

Therese from Handmade helps out is asking crafters to send in their goodies to raise money for those affected by the floods. This venture is called Craft Relief. I'm packing up some jewellery and working on some tweets as a way to contribute. 100% of all profits made from each sale will be donated.

My cosy spot

We're fortunate enough to have a room purely for reading in. A room specifically designated as the "chillout zone". The girls love to sit in here to read together, or to their dollies as do I. So after a day of moving heavy furniture and re-arranging my entire kitchen (why do I do it?) I will be spending my evening in here....

Reading this......

An Atlas published as part of "The Modern World Encylopedia" in 1935 (I have the whole set...I know, I know...enough encyclopedias woman!) Being Pre WW2 it should be interesting. I wish I could translate the smell of this book when it's opened into words. You can literally inhale the ink on the pages after years of presumably sitting closed and untouched. A glass of wine to add to the ambience and I'm all set.

The reason why I'm so keen to read tonight is that I want to avoid the television. I need to focus on being positive in my prayers for the people affected by the floods and being that my girls are asking whether the floods will "get us" I think some time away from the visual chaos and devastation is in order, for the time being anyhow. I hope this doesn't sound as though I'm "switching off " from the floods.....Far from it. This is going to be a long and arduous battle for all Australians to bring Queensland back to it's feet. I just don't feel as though I can see anymore heartbreaking footage. Both Amelia and Haidee found the images they saw on television this morning quite frightening. I can't begin to imagine what it's like for all the other little ones who have been exposed to the horror of the floods. I wish I could click my fingers and bring them all down to my place where its safe.

I think we all need to pray with a loving heart for Queensland. They need all they can get.

What to do?

I feel numb. The floods that are rampaging Queensland are just horrendous. I didn't sleep well last night. I was thinking about all of the people without a home, the separation of loved ones, the children, the animals, the death. Just the sheer terror of it all. It's just devastating.
I got out of bed at 5am and have spent my morning gazing at the paddocks out my back window. It's serene beauty bittersweet. I feel very fortunate to wake up with a sense of peace but also heartbroken for everyone else having to endure this horror.
I feel utterly helpless. The only thing I can do for now is donate to the Flood Appeal and the Red Cross. And of course to keep praying.

It's just too too awful :(

Hello everyone! I trust you're all enjoying the start of 2011. I've been kept very busy with swimming lessons, gardening and pulling down our old fence. I just wanted to share a lovely etsy treasury with you. The theme is "Dandelion Dreams" and one of my necklaces has been included. It's always nice to be chosen for a treasury :)

I'm also very excited with some new paintings I have been working on. I seem to have re-discovered my painting "MOJO" (if there is such a thing). Usually i paint willy-nilly, as a way to chillout. However my latest venture is keeping me up late at night and early in the morning. I'm exploring paint again.... Layering, washing away, using impasto, sanding back....just discovering new depths and textures. It's been wonderful!
