My dressing table (well, kind of)

When it comes to reading other peoples posts, my favourites are always the ones that allow me to take a peek inside their homes (which is why I love this blog so much). I love seeing how people decorate their spaces differently and I truly believe that it is a reflection of who we are. However I get really excited about dressing tables, you see, I've never had one. I've always had to display my goodies on top of a chest of drawers or inside a cupboard. How I long for one.

Anyways, this morning I tidied up my goodies (part of my spring cleaning craziness). I thought I'd share my way of displaying them.....

I found this old torn canvas in the shed when we moved. It was covered in black dust. My instincts told me to give it a clean and to my delight it revealed a lovely oil landscape painting of cherry blossom trees. I have no idea who painted it but I adore it. As it was torn already I decided to use it to display my hook earrings. I poked tiny holes along the branches of the tree so that my earrings would become part of the picture. It's a wonderful way to display your jewellery and incredibly practical.

Now I must tell you that this is but a smidge of my personal earring collection. I probably have too many but is that ever really the case?

And I just couldn't resist a close up of my favourite lady vase. She takes pride of place up here. I just love these and started my collection when I was 18. They're magical :)

Spring cleaning

Much to my husbands delight I have been bitten by the spring cleaning bug.... big time! The kitchen is the first room to be conquered. Damn my crazy bric- a- brac taste! Seriously, why do I do it to myself?! It's taking such a long time but I'll get there.

I would take a piccie of my other bench but it is currently covered by all the crap that had accumulated on this one.

Oh, and here is some of the "gardening" I accomplished yesterday.....

I'm loving yellow

Since moving to the country I've become a bit of a grumble bum when Autumn ends and Winter begins. I miss all the beautiful colours and the warmth of the sun. My saving grace is when the wattle trees start to bud, along with the jonquils and daffodils (I've already mentioned how excited I get about this).

As a result I have developed a deep appreciation for yellow. A colour I used to poo poo. For me it's one of those colours that works better with a splash here and there, a little "burst" to brighten up a room. So you can imagine my delight when we found this crate in the shed we're converting for my shop......

It's filled with beautiful old preserving jars and lids (we also have another box filled with these treasures). I'm not sure what to do with it though. Any ideas?

And now onto one of my other finds of late. A funky metal fold out table that cost $2 from Vinnies. It looks great in the bedroom.

And of course I've added some wattle fresh off the tree. I'm loving waking up to it in the morning. Well, that coupled with Haidee demanding to be fed at 6am! The tin is from my parents tea collection. Their kitchen was filled with these Rosebrand tins, Twinings tins and just about any other tea you can think of! Mum was kind enough to give me the Rosebrand ones to remind me of my childhood home.

Decorating with gameboards

I love collecting quirky vintage items and displaying them in my house (this includes a cash register in the kitchen, and birdcages hanging from my ceiling). My latest obsession is old game boards. I was first drawn to vintage games for their playing cards and pieces that I like to incorporate in my jewellery and paper art. I always loved the boards and decided that they are too cool to just sit folded away in my studio so I've put them up on the wall. They're hanging over the daybed in the office where the girls like to sit and read while i try to get computer stuff done. I'm loving it! They look great with my retro wall paper cut outs and floral print. Now.....where to put the rest of them!

My beautiful bunting

I just thought that I'd quickly let you know about the bunting that i had hanging from my table at Street Feast. It was made by the lovely Belinda at Tuttifruiti. I love her work. I have a little Babushka doll that i purchased from her a while back and when i saw that she was making this bunting i had to have some! I love how they hang like petals, and the colours she uses tie in so well together. I haven't worked out where I'm going to hang it yet. I'm trying different spots. For now its over the spare bed in the office (a rusty old spring bed that was here when we moved in...I love it!) The girls seem to like it better in there. They want a pink one for they're bedroom so I'm sure I'll be getting some more soon (It's all pink with my two!).

What makes me happy: My bedroom

Since moving from our tiny shack in the Hawkesbury, I'm finally enjoying having a bedroom that is purely to sleep in! My bedroom is no longer a laundry folding room, a workspace and an office all in one and i can't begin to tell you how happy this makes me feel! Every morning i feel rested and ready to embark on a new day. The painting in my room is by Kay Singleton Keller. It was given to me as a gift and i love it so much. I also love my little Babushka doll that was made by the lovely Belinda at Tuttifruiti. She makes the most beautiful things and will also be at the show.
